Detroit wins Game 2 of series, but is eliminated in sudden-death tiebreaker
(Southfield, Mich., April 20, 2008) – A “Golden Goal” from Monterrey forward Byron Alvarez knocked the top-seeded Detroit Ignition out of the playoffs tonight in front of a sell-out crowd at Compuware Arena. La Raza moves on to the MISL Championship Series Final next weekend where they will face the Baltimore Blast.
The Ignition tied up the semifinal series with Monterrey with a 21-2 victory in Game 2 earlier tonight – the club’s largest margin of victory this season. After a five minute intermission, the teams faced off in a sudden death “Golden Goal” mini-match series tiebreaker. Alvarez scored the game-winning shot with just under four minutes to play in the mini-game, sending the expansion team to the MISL Championship.
The MISL Championship Final kicks off at 7 p.m. (EST) Saturday from the U.S. Cellular Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Soccer Channel.

(Baltimore, MD – April 5, 2008) – The Detroit Ignition (22-8) won the Major Indoor Soccer League regular-season title with a 22-21 victory over the Baltimore Blast (19-11) tonight at 1st Mariner Arena. The victory gives the Ignition the top seed going into the 2008 MISL Championship Series, which kicks off next weekend. Detroit will move directly into the semifinal round of the playoffs, with Game 2 being held on Sunday, April 20 at Compuware Arena.
